Moving your eyelids and rubbing your eyelashes can also promote growth by increasing circulation and allowing nutrients to reach the follicles.
Castor Oil
Castor oil is, by far, the most effective way to achieve long, thick lashes. It’s easy to use, very affordable, and results are usually noticeable within 2 to 3 weeks. To apply castor oil, use a cotton swab or small brush to avoid making a mess and getting the product into your eyes.
Gently apply it to your lashes and eyelids, and leave it on overnight. If you are not going to sleep, leave it for 10 minutes. After that time, rinse it off with warm water. Castor oil is also very beneficial in fighting microorganisms that inhibit its growth.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is also an excellent choice for strengthening lashes. It is high in Vitamin E and oleic acid, providing significant nourishment to the lashes. In addition, it helps to darken them. Additionally, when mixed with castor oil or olive oil, they enhance the cleansing and stimulating properties of the oil. Results can vary, but are generally seen after about a month of daily treatment. Here’s how to use it:
- Put a tablespoon of lemon zest—preferably nearly dry—in a bowl.
- Soak the skin in olive oil or castor oil.
- Let the mixture sit for a few weeks.
- Before going to bed, apply the oil using an old mascara brush and leave it overnight.
- Rinse the next morning.
Green Tea
Green tea is rich in flavonoids, which promote eyelash growth. It also improves brain health and helps reduce blood sugar and cholesterol levels. You can use green tea to try to achieve healthier lashes; this way:
- Prepare a cup of unsweetened green tea and let it steep.
- Apply green tea to your lashes using a cotton ball.
- After about 15 minutes, rinse with cold water.
- Repeat this procedure twice a day for a few months.
If All Else Fails…
